Multi-color Prints with Single Color Printer?

Is there any good way to print multi-color prints, such as the Milglockee, Makilla, etc. (just as a couple of examples), when your printer can only print one filament at a time?

I've got the Adventurer 5M pro, and I know there is an aftermarket mod for it, but I've also heard that it can be temperamental to get working, and is kind of expensive, being more than half the price of the entire machine. Plus, it looks like it has a lot of excess waste.
