  • Lol they lifted the VZ61 kit render and description directly from my site. Definitely a scam site, stay away.

The demand for the Aug kits is super high right now and pretty much nobody has them. I'll be getting some more at the end of December, but other than that, if you see someone claiming they sell them, be very careful.

NOTE: literally minutes before publication, I received the news that /r/fosscadtoo was banned. I'll be researching this more and providing a writeup shortly.

  • /r/3D2A appears to be back up and acting normally, but we'll see if it survives the day.

  • The goal weight is between 325 and 350 grams. The bolts I pour are usually on the high side of that, around 340 or so.

    Printing with Privacy on Bambu

Flashforge's recent threats to the 3D2A community have revived the discussion around privacy in printing. How do we ensure that our printers aren't spying on us, blocking us from printing and tattling on us to the feds?

I made a video reviewing three techniques you can use to protect your privacy and keep yourself safe when using Bambu printers. These techniques can extend conceptually to other printers too.

  • Damn cool man!

  • Very good to know!

  • Out of curiosity, how has this build performed for you? The SCS version I mean - I know the SS design itself works. I don't feel like I ever saw many reports on its actual performance, but I hope it's good!

  • I recall that Jeffrod was working on a more precise method of ECM that may be similar to what you're describing. No idea where that ever landed.

There's a question I feel that should be asked more - why aren't chamber reamers used more widely as part of the "DIY barrel" process? Are these reamers unobtainable outside of the US? I recall looking at that a while ago and it did appear they could be shipped worldwide.

  • I would suspect the right way to work our way towards a fully DIY intermediate caliber design is to handle one part at a time. So start with a design that only DIYs the barrel, or the bolt, etc., then progressively step towards turning more parts from commercial to DIY.

I'd be curious to hear more about your ECM taper idea. What can you share about that?

  • I'm so excited for the 9mm version.

  • I fully support upgrading the wiki tech on the Guncad Index. Can confirm that the editing experience is less than stellar.

  • I don't believe Albert ever actually released his work and it's not clear it's actually being actively worked on any longer.

I do think that @notsuspekt is correct that if you want the recipe for practical purposes, and you're in the US, it makes little sense to DIY it. But I do think it's a worthy area of research and I'd like to see someone revive the project.

  • Thanks much man! Just did so.

  • Ha! I knew I was going to do that someday. Fixed.

  • For what it's worth there is already a wiki on the Guncad Index, https://guncadindex.com/wiki/. It is currently focused more on being a wiki for GCI proper vs. a general guncad wiki, but perhaps it could someday evolve into a general wiki.
