  • Perfectly accurate, as it should be. the K/Z was never intended to actually suppress all that well, it's just a flowthrough you stick on the end of your gun to deaden the blast a bit. it does work noticably better in 5.7 though, due to the baffle section being a bit more voluminous - OBK/TSS C4

    We know things may be confusing, but recently we undertook an effort to standardize okb-69 materials and put them all in one place. that's why the nikolai romanov odysee was deleted, and why we continue to reupload on the Mirror accounts.

    Currently, we have begun the process of submitting multiple of nikolai's designs through the eforms system. as of right now, we can confirm that three of them are able to be submitted in the following calibers without going to pending research:

  • i can second that ABS is a very good midgrade option. It works very well better than PLA+ under nearly all conditions, besides being ever so slightly weaker to shock loads. its is much more resistant to temperature though, so it really does help with suppressors.

  • you're going to experience a lot of differing opinions on this one. what makes a "good" suppressor? your typical metal "good" 556 suppressor is way too small in my opinion. but that's just my opinion. you probably won't find anything of a similar size that suppresses as well as the bigger ones we make. You will probably find that we make quieter suppressors that are gigantic compared to "commercial" options. the OD of a CF tube FTN4 is about 50mm and the useable internal volume is probably 2-3x that of a commercial metal suppressor. This is not something we do out of choice, but neccessity. the suppressors must minimize peak pressures to survive, so they are naturally bigger with more expansion volume which instantly reduces peak pressures by allowing the gas more room to expand before it acts on the walls of the suppressor. the materials we use have a yield strength of approximately 10-30kpsi, while metals may have a yield strength in the high tens or even a 100kpsi or over, in specific situations.

    the effect of this increased volume is usually that it actually is just quieter.

    but if you ask me commercial suppressors are snake oil anyways.

  • not sure why you are having trouble joining. but we use element. the biggest thing with the gustav is that it was meant to just be a flowthrough version of the ratte with a little added length. it won't be as quiet as them on a similar weapon, but it won't produce nearly as much gas. testing has yielded results consistent with these design principles. sorry to OP to hijack the thread by the way.

  • unfortunately i do not think that the results of the professional testing that was conducted was ever published. I had a line on a guy who claimed that he had tested the ftn series and several of my designs with pro equipment but he stopped responding. i have theories as to why but it remains a mystery.

  • unless the transducer was a 300+ dollar type, its not going to have quick enough impulse time. what its probably measuring is the reflections of sound from the environment afterwards which really isnt accurate to the actual sound suppression of the device.
