Something I haven't seen anyone else here (that probably won't matter if you're just doing basic gaming) is that bazzite is what is called an atomic distro - meaning that key system files are immutable (they can't be altered) and certain directories are also read only.
It means that installing packages with a package manager can be a little bit trickier. Setting up a dev environment can be tricky. And certain other things can be more difficult.
There's a huge chance this won't matter at all to you, but in the event you run into issues like "this directory is read only" or something along those lines, that'll be why.
Again, may never matter but something to keep in mind.
If we lived in a just world the ceo would do a lot of screaming while he was torn to pieces by wild boars.
Sundar Prichai is the worst of humanity, a soulless, evil, void where in other people humanity would reside. He is the enemy of a free and open internet and a fucking monster and while I'd never do anything to harm another human being he deserves the most grisly and ghastly things a human could possibly suffer, and there is no misfortune that could befall this man that I would not delight in.
Bash was derived by a team of criminally insane programmers in the bowels of a South American asylum so deep in the jungle no country can rightfully claim it as its own. It is the product of the demented keystrokes of the damned, possessing a singular logic so alien that its developers can hardly be said to be human at all.
From a security perspective when you consider this, along with our reliance on mobile phones, POS systems, digital payment processors, iot devices, cell phone providers, etc etc.
Sooner or later someone with ill intent is going to savagely fist fuck the whole fucking ecosystem to death and take a shit on the flaming wreckage.
Law enforcement neither understands nor gives a fuck about tech for the most part, unless you're dealing with high end espionage type shit. Good luck getting officers dunning and Krueger to take action on anything suspicious when they think their ability to use an iPhone means they're the greatest thing to happen to tech since the microprocessor.
The makers of consumer tech products could give a fuck about security. Wireless providers similarly could not give a squirt of fucking piss about security as long as you're paying your monthly bills and they can harvest data. Politicians only care insofar as they're able to use tech to push their moral bullshit, control and police peoples' actions. It goes on and on and on and on.
We are reliant on all manner of tech products, both hardware and software, to participate in modern life, and yet the political apparatus treats it all like it's disposable, as if it's 1996 and it doesn't matter if all of this goes to shit.
We are a naked, drunk 16 year old girl at a frat house with a sign that says "fuck me, I'm wasted" around our necks and we're pretending like there are no consequences to this, or worse yet that nothing bad will happen.
Bazzite is an immutable distro. Fedora calls them atomic. It means many many things are only really updatable online, and you arent allowed to make manual changes to them. Hence immutable.
Bazzite is a very bad choice if you want the same kind of use you'd get out of a windows or mint machine, or any other non atomic distro.
The shitty news here is if you want a machine you're doing software dev on you're going to need to figure out the nvidia driver shit, which is a pain in the ass but if you're a software developer you should be able to do it.
This is awesome - thank you for posting this.
You wouldn't know if anywhere I could go to get a better handle on how this works, would you?
Also - if a pc is running without a pci hpu - how does the drm at work differ in the cpu? Or does it? If those questions make sense. And if you know.
Thanks!
