I really can’t stand the look of this gun is it just me ?

I finally got around to building Dahfahq's Amazon FGC (freemanamiru on the sea), a bufferless FGC9 variant designed to be built entirely from parts available on Amazon, with a bolt made from a 1-2-3 machinist block and sticky weights. I also modified an existing g19 barrel adapter to use a g17 barrel I had sitting around. Getting that adapter right was actually the hardest part, the bolt design is really impressive and easy to assemble, no drilling or welding and just a bit of grinding for mag clearance, and she runs great. My rattlecan job uses shard camo templates (thing:4589864) with a color scheme inspired by the very impractical but very neat urban camo from the original Modern Warfare 2.

A few notes for anyone who wants to build one, since it is still a beta:

    1. You can get the hydraulic tubing for an ECM barrel on Amazon, but don't. They're just resellers, so you'll pay 2-3x as much as you would an AliE, and the shipping will take just as long. I think that's why it's the one part not actually linked in the BOM.

    2. I think the barrel retainer on this thing is designed for the imperial collars linked in the BOM, not the metric collars from the original FGC9, so the machined FGC9 barrels you can buy from community vendors likely won't fit without some modification, and same goes for the printable g19/rp9 barrel adapters already out there.

    3. I think the interfacing wall of headspacing jig is a little thinner than the wall in the upper that it's meant to replicate. That may just be a kink caused by my layer heights, but this is just a reminder to measure stuff in your actual assembly as well as with the jig, and test with primed cases!

    4. There's a pic rail you can put on the rear for the stability device of your choice, I just left it off of mine.

    5. Do not skimp on epoxy when you're securing the firing pin channel tube in the bolt. That tube is your bolt face, and the set screws are not enough to keep it secure on their own. Also, tighten the set screws gradually alternating from side to side so the channel stays mostly centered.

    6. The g17 adapter I made is on the sea under sillacsaurfang, but be careful with it and modify as necessary. I built it around a cheapo Combat Arms barrel which may have out-of-spec lugs. Also, you'll have to cut tabs out of the retainer wall for the feedramp and top bit. Fits well with the original feedramp, though, so you don't have to modify that.

    7. The weights in the BOM are shaped a little differently than the ones in the guide, so I was only able to fit 12 instead of 15. However, my final bolt weight was still about 21oz so it worked out fine. Make sure to re-weigh after doing all your mag channel grinding and firing pin installation, and just epoxy something 22cal bullets or something in some middle holes if you come up a little short.

    8. There's a note in the Springs section about changing the OAL of one of the buffer springs by stretching it out and sticking it in the oven. If you can figure out how to do that, follow the directions, but I wasn't sure how to keep it stretched in there so I secured it stretched length-wise in a vice and hit it with a propane torch for a few seconds for the same effect. Let it cool before releasing, of course.

Nice build!! I was wondering for months what happened to all the machinist block builds and why nobody is building them. Would you say it was a lot harder to build than the basic FGC Mk.2 ?

I have had a lot better luck with Ebay Glock frame parts kits. None of my triggers have broke at more than 5 lbs. I suppose it's the luck of the draw with ebay seller. I have Timney Glock Triggers in a couple of frames and they are great!

OEM trigger parts.  Everything but the firing pin runs about $45.  An OEM pin is like $35.  25 cent trigger job.  Works great.

I use OEM triggers with the Long Ranger trigger shoe from Ranger Proof Gear.

I hate the OEM trigger shoe. The safety irritates my finger after long range days.

45-70 is a rimmed cartridge. Never going to feed in an AR style platform. Well, never is a bad word but…….

RN the base is the AR so it could be done even in 556 Gotta test the .22 ver though to see if the upper and guard will even stay together

Man that sounds so good, i just wish there would be this but suitable for ez22. Since i cannot get the cmmg kit myself, but the older ez22 especially the early beta's we're strongest, because the weaver rail upper wasn't so hollow as in the new versions.

Make it a wrist breaker and extend it about 2” for 45-70 :) that brass will hold a 410 shot cup roflmao, and if you can stretch it to work, please, please send me a map for a sailing voyage!

See a lot of people in the sub having the same issue of getting it flush was thinking of just bic lighting the spring until it’s flush.

The Frommer Stop seems to be an ideal candidate for a 3-D printed gun. It uses a long recoil operating system so the pressure upon unlocking the breach should be very low…I think.

This would mitigate the primary concern most 3-D printed guns have of excess pressure upon unlocking the breach and not require the massive weight of a simple blowback operating system as the barrel itself acts as a weight.

    Thoughts?

I'm calling it finished. No more. There are a few issues with the design, but it works. Trigger could be ground down more than the instructions say. The top cover peaks open when you pull the trigger. It's fine. The connector to the linkage needed a rework to fit in the slot. Maybe move the slot back 1mm or sand down the part like I did. I also modeled the part so it didn't need sanding. The stock needs some work. Glue the two halved together before assembly and it will be fine. Due to the thick receiver walls, the stock AR-15 fcg pins are not long enough to easily tell if they are in both receivers. If your hammer and/or trigger look skewed, hammer the pins center. The entire thing needs to be dry fired a hundred times to smooth everything out. It doesn't feel that bad anymore.

I’d like to build something in 22lr that I can use a super safety in, but can’t decide on anything specific. Been looking at doing a vz61 in 22, but don’t know much about how well those work with a super safety, and they’re like 500 bucks for just the upper and mags. Alternatively, the deAR22 looks like it would be neat, but I don’t know much about it. Any ideas or suggestions would be cool. thanks in advance! SS AR with hoffman lower for attention

Coming to you all yet again for a little help... so it seems whenever I print in GF nylon I have these almost evenly alternating ridges in my print. Hip almost seems like layer shift but then returns back to Center to then layer shift again.

I am using bamboo labs pa6 GF and using some slightly tuned settings with a .04 mm nozzle. You filling it was thoroughly dried at 80c for 48 hours. I used a Sharpie to highlight where the lines are in some areas. I attached photos of my slicer prepared View differentiating between layer time, flow rate, temperature, fan speed and a couple other things trying to see if anything lines up at the same or similar layers to the imperfections im finding.

TL;DR: weird ridges appearing in nylon gf prints and occasionally in cf prints as well. I feel confident/pleased with my support s

Just printed a NN80 43x frame out of PET CF on an H2D. I used all stock settings outside of lowering print speeds. Print came out perfect, only pain in the ass was the supports attaching a little too well

I’m looking for rails, a lower parts kit, and complete slide. Basic googling showed a few pages that sell parts but I am unfamiliar with how reliable they are. Where do you usually get your parts from? Reading here a lot of people get them from EBay but how do I make sure they’re good quality parts?

I dont have a printer. but are there any cheap ideas for a JHP 45 pistol chassis? I know there is the roni thing, but those are really expensive. Theres also the recover tactical for Glocks, that attatch to the front Picatinny. Seems like these add versatility to pistols
