How do I know when the slip coating is gone? Can I feel the difference? Couldn’t visually tell so I just went at it till I got every area with brush and alcohol.

I've been using the CF tube from amazon everyone's been buying. Oddly enough this CF tube works with the FTN2 just fine. It's probably those air gaps, I've been trying to fill them in by hand as well by spreading everything evenly so it doesn't get pushed out by the CF tube. They might still be emptying out when curing. How much of the fiberglass should be used? Enough to kinda stuff the tube so it feels snug and won't slide off?

Edit: actually this makes sense since the failure is at the top and i usually let it sit thread side up so the resin is probably pooling at the muzzle end of the tube

    For the coating try acetone

But that would not cause this failure. This would’ve been caused by one of two things. Either you got a shitty CF tube or you did not have enough resin fill the air gaps between the tube and the print. Did you mix chopped fiberglass with the resin? That thicken it, so it doesnt flow while curing

The other thing that is, I think pretty much waterproof at this point is trying this product : https://www.amazon.com/Scotchcast-Casting-Inches-Yards-3M/dp/B005TLJ6LE

Looks like you didn’t use a wire brush/sandpaper on the inside of your CF tube. Also looks like not enough epoxy.

Not sure why anyone didn’t point it out but the picture where it’s split down the middle looks like very bad layer adhesion, what tempt are you printing at

When you’re putting in the resin, use your wife vibrator (magic wand) to help it settle in. Works like a concrete vibrator 🤓

I went an extra mile to make sure all of the coating was removed from mine. I used brake clean (since it doesn't leave a residue), acetone, alcohol, and dawn dish soap using a wire brush, sand paper, and the abrasive side of a sponge using those chemicals. It's hard to tell once it's removed though.

It looks pretty easy. I've seen people on YouTube do it but I've never done it myself. As far as fosscad stuff goes, this is easy peasy

I’ve tried Phils holster but unlike his pistol I wouldn’t really recommend it. Kydex is just the way to go. Honestly PLA just doesn’t lend itself to holsters and most people don’t seem to mess with the more flexible filaments very often.

Philz g43x has stl and instructions for a printed holster. Check that out for inspiration. Plus the best all around g43x IMO

istg it's so annoying. I cant even use my Linux Mint partition because there isn't a driver for my WiFi adapter. Ugh it's so ridiculous

  • u/CantoniaCustomsII · 2024-05-18 09:28:55 UTC · score 2

Legit the only reason why installing uni printers onto my Linux laptop is a pain is because the university absolutely refuses to release instructions for Linux, and I found the solution is literally one menu option and one copy/paste line of text.

It's just like people purposely try to exclude Linux access from systems when it's absolutely hurting nobody.

I've been wanting to get into 3d printing for a while but I have no idea where to start. What are some good first printers? Budget friendly.

    Oh Saint Hoffman,

Pioneer of polymers, guardian of the fire rate, We praise your hands, steady as FMDA rails, And your mind, sharp as a hardened nozzle.

In the name of freedom and filament, You breathed life into plastic and purpose. You taught us that freedom is printable, That strength comes in layers, And that nothing matters more than super safety.

You revealed the might of PLA+, Strong, reliable, and unyielding— A filament forged for battle and built to last.

Bless our extruders with consistent flow, Keep our supports minimal and our overhangs mighty. Bless our builds with tight tolerances, Our prints with clean lines, And our hearts with the spirit of creation.

Through you, plastic becomes purpose. Through safety, we endure.

    Amen

I'm looking for a project. And it costs 30 Euros! Unfortunately, here in my country the currency is very devalued, I would have to take all my money from 2 weeks of work just to pay the 30 Euros.

If anyone with a good heart wants to make this donation, I promise to help here in the group. Maybe for someone from a better country, 30 Euros would be more affordable.

Thank you in advance, you would be making a dream come true. And sorry to order with this.

Where can I source a Glock ejector for a printed AR9 lower? I understand that I can use SendCutSend, but I REALLY don’t need so many.

Is there a site that sells them individually, or did one of yall get too many from SendCutSend and want to offload one?

    Sike Arms Trigger Issue

Hey guys wanted to see if anyone could help me out.

When I was putting together my sike arms with PSA dagger rail & glock lower parts I kept running into the issue of my trigger not working properly no matter what I tried. To even get it to reset I really had to force the trigger which ended up creating that dent you see on the trigger housing hole. Did anyone building sike arms frames have any issues with this?

Not sure if its because of the cheap eBay LPK I got or if its maybe a print issue of mine? I am printing on a P1S OVERTURE Super PLA+.

I am curious what people in this community think about this. I am torn, of two minds, about the idea. I think this kind of technology was inevitable, and on the one hand: OK, I am not doing anything illegal so... yep. And on the other... do people need to start demanding a bill of sale if they buy a used printer? Do they need to worry because some jackass a city away has the same model? If the technology gets better, will "they" be able to fingerprint your prints from a picture? I might be ashamed of some other prints getting tied back to me...

Trying to get my shopping list together and realized I don't know what gens are compatible with the g17 frames. Thanks for everyone's help up to this point

Could a Stainless Steel Switch Explode? Saw a 3d one Fly Out on YouTube

I recently watched a video where a 3d printed AS (switch) exploded and flew out the back of a 3D-printed housing. The damage was semi-contained because of the printed material, but it got me thinking—if the switch is stainless steel and not properly filed/fitted, could that cause a runaway gun or even a catastrophic failure?

From what I’ve seen, most switches that don’t fail seem to have better finishing/tolerances, but I can’t find much info on what exactly causes these failures. Is it poor fitment, material fatigue, or just bad design?

Has anyone else seen this happen I’m curious about the engineering behind why some hold up and others don’t.

So i know virtual foundry filament isn't all pure metal and is just metal with a plastic holder. But would it be stronger than PLA+? Long as I have a kiln to debind and sinter the parts and upscale it to account for shrinkage I should be good right?

Reason I'm asking is, I can't find a pm63 barrel that's threaded and the one place that makes them don't have any till more demand for them happens. My goal was either

    1. 3d model and print the barrel then use a milling machine (smaller size one I don't have a big 10k machine)
    2. 3d print it out of metal from VF and then mill it out for the bullet for 9x18mok

Plus I have other projects I wanna try doing metal with parts that don't need to handle high pressure or heat.
