  • Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm from Freedomland (I'm using Tor for my protection) and can assure you that I'm not doing anything illegal against the God's law.

    👍

Now I don't know what you mean by "We've got a zero-tolerance policy against felonyposting." exactly, but I have a bad feeling about it.

It's simple: don't admit to felonies here. I'm not gonna run around and police where everyone's from and what their local laws are because we're all adults, I respect peoples' privacy, and I can't ever know the whole situation. But if you blatantly and flagrantly admit to breaking the law, that'll catch a ban here. Whole lotta risk involved in letting that sort of shit slide.

you would maybe also find more people if people could share all kinds of guns here (not just theirs and not just CAD stuff), by the way.

We do. I'd urge users who wanna talk about commercial guns to maybe make a new community on this instance for it, but people regularly show off their builds in a lot of subs.

And you didn't answer my question(s) about community activities, so yeah confusion is bad to have.

Apologies. Yes, feel free to interact with other communities, but be aware that most communities on other instances aren't visible from here. They're hidden so as to keep this instance narrow in focus. If you'd like a general-purpose Lemmy account -- one where you can post to places like meme communities or programming or gardening or whatever -- I'd suggest you sign up on another instance and post across to communities here. Anywhere but lemmy.world should work fine.

  • Mighty kind words friend, and I thank you for them. They keep me going.

I wouldn't have anything to platform, though, were it not for you all. Go thank your favorite devs while you're at it.

  • Sorry choom -- I spun this instance up fast to try and pick people up after we got banned off of Reddit and completely neglected to put a proper mission statement in the sidebar:

This is a Lemmy instance for discussion about the design, creation, maintenance, and culture of DIY firearms and accessories (collectively "guncad", "3D2A", or "fosscad").

CAD is a crucial part of that, and is the process of using design software (typically Fusion, FreeCAD, and other parametric modelers) to create models that can then be manufactured via a variety of processes.

What you'll find is that most people here are talking about 3D-printed frames & receivers (the registered part of the gun here in the States) and/or guns that are primarily printed but may require some hobbyist-level extra tooling, as these are generally the most accessible for most people. That said, I welcome all sorts, from shitty pipe guns to SOTs showing off mills and lathes.

From your other comment, it looks like you're overseas, friend. Make sure participation in a community like this is legal where you're at -- don't want anyone getting in trouble. We've got a zero-tolerance policy against felonyposting.

  • He's fine.

  • This update went live just a couple minutes after release like the rest of them. The change in algo on Recently Updated was so things were way more deterministic when bulk uploading, like in plaboi's case with the FTN.

This also gives Verified releases a "12-hour bonus", meaning they're treated as 12h more recent than regular releases and will stay up on the carousel for a bit longer as a result. Friendly reminder that the standards for verification are detailed in the Index's About page and, if you think you meet them, you can shoot me a DM and I'll review.

  • Gonna be hard pressed to find very many of them that are 3D2A-specific.

  • Fug. Not sure then. I do know there are a lot of FGC handguards, though.

  • Sometimes the tags are wrong -- we use a lot of heuristics and depend on community contributions to fix any errors.

I just corrected it, but if you think you see any errors elsewhere, feel free to vote for edits yourself. Hit the edit button next to the tag list.

  • No worries -- you don't know it's obvious until someone says as much.

  • I will occasionally call them Rear Breed, so if you see that, you're not tripping and it's intentional.

  • There are explicit, documented conversations from Twin Bros saying that they knew they were filing a patent knowing that they didn't make the thing and knowing that prior art existed. I cannot imagine this goes well for Rare Breed at all.

  • Based.

  • Always a good idea to strip EXIF. Fwiw, our image uploader strips tags for you, but it's best not to depend on the remote end for this type of thing.
