  • STLs can be plaintext or binary. Avoid plaintext STLs (you can re-render them using Blender if you find them, they're rare) and null the first 80B of binary ones. GUMM13's doing research on the format.

    For STEPs, they're all plaintext. I think you can null whitespace and maybe all comments, but I'm not sure.

  • I like to dip to 0.16 and 0.12 where it makes sense purely for quality. The mag catch on the SF5, for example, benefits from the higher resolution against high-friction surfaces and makes the paddle smoother to operate.

    Print fine stuff with fine settings, more or less.

  • It's usually drive-by downvotes from /c/all users on other instances. If you're some guy on lemmy.ml who only cares about programming socks and hating cars, your response to a printed MP5-22 suddenly dropping into your feed might be "ew" followed by a downvote.

  • In my experience? Doesn't really matter -- layer height influences outward print quality and dimensional accuracy more than strength.

  • It's not terrible, but it reeks horribly and kinda sucks to print. I did a KF5 in it once and found that its abrasion resistance leaves a lot to be desired. Sands down too easily.

  • My poor X1C has suffered a lot through one hotend, including a lot of 20% CF PA6, 17% CF PET, and this plastic in gold, red, silver, and bronze, all of which comes out picture-perfect. If I had to guess, it's either wet or you have a clog.
