  • This is so fucking awesome.

  • These settings are the golden goose. I'm using them on my X1C.... use a smooth plate and a gluestick and you're good to go.

I probably didn't dry my filament enough (only 6 hours at 80c) still turns out fantastic.

  • Linux is great. I'd use Ubuntu. It's been rock solid for me for years.

I've been on many distros over the years:

    • Mint
    • RasberryPi OS
    • Void Linux
    • Fedora
    • Debian
    • Arch Linux
    • Oracle Linux
    • Amazon Linux

I always find myself back on Ubuntu for Desktop/Laptop and Debian for server stuff...

  • I'm running a simple cron-based reddit to Lemmy bridge over at !bazaar@fosscad.io to pull from r/gundeals - it doesn't do comments right now. It also only pulls posts with a certain number of upvotes. It's a bit noisy, and we don't have OP/commenters available on Lemmy for a good discussion.

I've written more advanced mirroring scripts for re-uploading archives of r/fosscad to !ark@fosscad.io

My concern with two-way mirroring would be Rule 7 violations in comments on Lemmy, getting mirrored to Reddit, and causing bans.

I think we should encourage people to join us here, as much as possible, while keeping the subreddits alive enough to be an on-ramp to the GCI/Fosscad Lemmy instances.

  • So I don't have a guide for assembly of the parts kit yet.

But I do have an install guide for the Super Safety (full kit) - you would still follow this after printing the cam components and lever, and assembling the cam.

    https://greysummitgear.com/guides/install/

  • $60 for the raw components is asinine.

Yeah I have 600 rounds through one cam. No issues yet. I melted a PLA lever around 450 rounds suppressed and gassy, started making them from PA6-CF after that.

I'm in discussions with a metal finishing shop to coat the grade 5 titanium to further increase wear resistance. Might increase the price by a few bucks, but should be bulletproof after that.

  • Yeah they have language on "gifts" and effectively a download link can be constituted as a transfer.

They actually say you can't gift, sell, or transfer 3D print files or instructions under the new rules...

    So that alone kills r/FOSSCAD.

  • FWIW - I don't disagree with you.

That said, banning a community without warning - for rules that were changing but not yet announced is uncool.

Personally, I'm dealing with the same de-platforming from eBay. They don't like gun parts very much, but their rules are frustratingly vague at times. Hard to sell. And the traffic on eBay is hard to give up.

Granted, it's their private business and therefore their decision.

The more annoying issue is that it's a public company in the case of Reddit, so their rule changes are more rooted in public opinion. Which is the larger issue imo.

  • Very helpful. Thank you!

  • This thing looks awesome. Making a GitLab so I can join the beta when I get home!

  • How do you do rifling at home? Is it that electrolysis thing I see? Or something more forceful?

  • Thanks for the info. Sounds like I gotta wait a bit longer to jump into this. All good :)

  • Seems they upped it.

  • So FYI - the OP of this post is over on Reddit and will not see your comments.

I'm not sure on your question though :)

  • I think it'll be a race to the bottom.

!bazaar@fosscad.io is pulling from r/gundeals now.

There is no reason folks cant set up a WTB/WTS community themselves on lemmy. The only thing missing is the audience/community

Not great to split a community, but website development takes time. And people want a GAFS replacement now... patience will only last so long.

My bet is they'll come around to lemmy. Especially as a lot of GAFS people are probably also in FOSSCAD and vice versa.

  • Super Safety @fosscad.io

    RIP to 2A Reddit.

Seems like r/fosscad was the first.

Now r/GAFS and others will be next.

PA6-CF vs PA6-GF - Impact Toughness vs Brittleness

    Reading through this thread: https://forum.bambulab.com/t/gf-vs-cf-pros-and-cons/192469

What's the consensus on PA6-GF vs CF?

I'm mostly interested in optimizing Super Safety Components like the lever for impact resistance, but also anti-warping.

Currently using PA6-CF. Having solidish results.

PLA+ lever warped (but didn't break) after 450 rounds of .300blk. Very gassy with a can.

Still need to do more solid testing with PA6-CF.

Both material levers break if I smack em with a mallet on an anvil - but that seems like a shitty metric either way.

The SSSzar V3 - any tips?

    cross-posted from: https://fosscad.io/post/2862

    Has anyone printed a SSSzar?

Looking at a VZ61 parts kit.

    Curious what people think?

    https://guncadindex.com/detail/SSSzar-V3:c

    Sharing here as well.

Do you need a different trip printed to make it work with a Super Safety?

Also can you get the OG grip working? or am I giving that up for sure?

I kinda think it's fugly, but it's Super Safe which is dope.

Lemmy Communities mapped to equivalent Subreddits

    cross-posted from: https://fosscad.io/post/2101

    Hello Lemmy friends,

I've created a small map of Lemmy communities that are active to their equivalent subreddits.

I hope this helps make Lemmy feel more like home for more than just FOSSCAD.

Please let me know if there are any I should add :)

If the links aren't working, you'll need to copy paste the instance code into your search bar first. Then click the link

    Hey there,

I'm not sure about the rules on federating yet.

But I have created a community for discussing Super Safeties and FRTs. - !supersafety@fosscad.io

I'm guessing there will be a ban of /r/supersafety soon. Just with how Reddit has been lately.

Feel free to post your Super Safety videos/clips.

Welcome to FOSSCAD.io – A Decentralized Home for FOSSCAD on the Fediverse

As many of you know, FOSSCAD has faced significant censorship on mainstream platforms. Reddit's bans on r/fosscad and r/DIYguns, along with the looming threat of a ban on r/supersafety, have made it clear that decentralization is more important than ever for the survival and growth of our community.

This is why we've launched FOSSCAD.ioa better, more sustainable alternative to the centralized platforms that are too often subject to arbitrary bans and censorship. The Fediverse offers a platform where moderation is community-driven, and we can build and shape the content we want to see, free from corporate interference.

    Calling All Former Moderators

If you've been banned from any of the aforementioned subreddits or other platforms, we want to hear from you. Reach out if you're interested in being reinstated as a moderator here, helping to manage this space and keep the FOSSCAD community safe, open, and welcoming.
