3/4 rod mod is for you

  • u/NewProfile6499 · 2024-05-26 16:40:59 UTC · score 1

If I were going to go the weldless route, I'd snag a dremel cutoff disc and cut "bumps" into both pieces and epoxy in several round rods vs. the large square lug.

All in all, the lug isn't difficult to do with a dremel either.

  • u/VodkaSnortr · 2024-05-14 20:40:03 UTC · score 5

Try it with a safety squint (and standby paramedics)

  • u/Thelordkyleofearth · 2024-05-15 21:39:42 UTC · score 1

You could probably use a cut off disk to cut that, but if you don't already have one, threaded rod would be cheaper.

  • u/Ju5t3nc4s3 · 2024-05-16 00:40:20 UTC · score 1

Its also posable to use 2 threaded rods. The threads will inner lock if u get the proper size. Added with JB weld and a proper strong filament.

I reprinted the lower in the proper orientation but I couldn't get the bolt weight where I wanted. It ran subs just fine. Supers cracked the upper around the front takedown pin and I never bothered to reprint it.

Nope you’re 100% correct on support settings it’s just support distance that usually causes that

  • u/Temporary-Money33 · 2025-01-04 14:03:33 UTC · score 2

I only say supports cause my frames were coming out nice everywhere else except where supports would touch. (it would look EXACTLY like his trigger guard where they touched) I did extrusion tests and everything under the sun, it all looked good but nothing I did would fix it until I started tweaking support settings and I haven’t had a problem since. It’s very much possible he could have extrusion problems along with others but in my experience my support settings would cause this issue for some reason. I was going crazy for days trying to figure it out.

  • u/Scuba-Steve___ · 2025-01-04 13:49:25 UTC · score 1

Yea I’d shoot it as well, but nothing over 500 rds. This is one of those “test prints”. And that trigger guard material is definetly not from supports. I get where you’re coming from, but that’s for sure extruder marks. Or under extrusion. You can see the zig zags as if the extruder caused it. It could be ironed down with a soldering iron, or ironing settings.

But I’d assume the whole top of the rails look the exact same.

OP post another pic of the inside of the frame/ an above pic.

Looks great! Been wanting to print one off myself but I’ve got unfinished frames as it is

  • u/Temporary-Money33 · 2025-01-04 13:39:08 UTC · score 3

His print doesn’t look that bad. Could tune his supports a little more so there’s not so much material left stuck when removing (which is where that trigger guard material is prolly from) but it looks alright. Could be WAYYY worse. I’d shoot it.

  • u/Scuba-Steve___ · 2025-01-04 08:22:00 UTC · score -7

Lmfao. I’m a licensed gun smith and dealer bucko. My apologies for starting printing last week. At least I’m man enough to admit I don’t know everything and my printer DOES need calibration just as everybody’s does who doesn’t know what they’re doin or just got their printer.

My prints are crispy clean due to my post and questions. Yours look like shit and will probably cost you a hospital trip one day. Enjoy it ma boy 😂🤝

You can see in between the slide and the frame?

Have you ever shot/seen the tolerances for a standard Glock?

Was just wondering what you guys think of Cody Wilson, other than his political ideas or the fact that he was the catalyst of the 3d printed firearms movement. I recently listened to 2 interviews hes done and he seems like he had a massive ego at minimum, and possibly a messianic complex. He says things that make it clear he thinks he's "the father" of 3d printed guns, "indispensable", and other odd stuff. He very clearly thinks he's the coolest guy in the room but acts like a chud. I recognize he did some important things with the liberator and ghost gunner, but I have a hard time believing someone else wouldn't have made either one of those things on a similar time scale. That's the feeling I've gathered but wondering if you guys agree or disagree?

Anyone have an idea why my sw9g isn’t firing with the mag inserted? Trigger moves all the way but won’t fire until I take the mag out

Hey I actually followed through on something and built a Glock 17 with a parts kit and complete slide from JSD Supply. Printed with Polymaker PLA Pro in Olive Green on an X1C. I liked the results so much I printed a second with Elegoo PLA Pro in white and I’ll be finishing that one when the other kit arrives.

The beta for the Dirte Dozen(formally JD 12) is going good. It's a 12ga break open shotgun made with common hardware and can be made simple hand tools. Cost @ $75. The metal L brackets have done well in adding strength and none of the builds have had any frame failures during testing. Now there is a double barrel version that needs some testing then we can set sail.

I'm picturing a very short barrel supressed bolt action .300 blackout.

I'm probably going to do a short action 9mm as well but unless I have a clever idea to slice in a glock mag or something quickly ill just craft it as a single shot with a sled so you just drop the 9mm in the side and it chambers similar to a bench rest rifle.

If you happen to find an stl for a lower that is f/a only and you use solid supports where it was supposed to be cut out to force semi auto would that technically pass nfa? Just a thought, I know most designs are semi auto first

The Modular Firearm Stand is now posted and available. Currently, there are 5 different bases (including single, dual, and triple stands) and 5 different inserts (Glock 17/19, Glock 43/48, Staccato, AR, and 10/22) to choose from.

Please let me know if there is a different insert you would like, and I’d be happy to create it.

I just printed a test part with this post processing script with orca: https://github.com/GeekDetour/BrickLayers

I adjusted the flow to 115% and a 2-wall test cube came out with very good layer adhesion and the dimension of the wall was also exactly 2x the extrusion width. It definetely feels stronger than any other test part i print before.

Looking for a filament that doesn't require too much smoothing, wont deform in a hot car or under the stress of being in a loaded mag for extended periods of time, and will resist chemicals (at least the dry lube recommended for 3D printed mags).

ASA is my starting point, but I'd like to know what others are doing. Am I overthinking this?
