"The ATF has clarified that a pistol brace is not a stock and is designed to conform to the arm and not as a buttstock." -thats what google just said. Same as my thinking. Call it what you want, if it's meant to be shouldered- that's a stock. I personally wouldn't risk it but you do you.

Interesting, but also very stupid haha.

Do you have a source on the scoring system thing you mentioned? I'd like to read up on it if possible.

  • u/Jrmuscle · 2025-03-03 22:32:13 UTC · score -5

The grooves are simply by design to fit a recoil pad, but I see what you're saying.

Thanks for making a proper argument, and providing a solution. I don't like a lot of brace options that are available, so I'll do some cad work on this design tonight.

Could you clarify what you mean by proper velcro slots? It has one on the top and bottom already.

That's just non slip grip for when you rest it on the ground...

  • u/hellowiththepudding · 2025-03-03 22:40:36 UTC · score 15

It’s also a clone of a commercially sold stock with a piece of Velcro.

  • u/Jrmuscle · 2025-03-03 22:29:11 UTC · score -3

I don't think it not being curved to fit your arm makes it a stock, though. I've seen plenty of commercial brace options that are not curved and are still labelled as a "brace". Many that look like the examples in the link that Go_F1sh provided.

The strap comes undone which you wrap around your forearm. The splitting style braces are new to me. I'm not home to get a picture for you, sorry.

It's just frustrating, it's a really nice looking brace, and I'm not really a fan of the other options out there, but I'd like to avoid any legal trouble for a fucking .22 lol

  • u/TresCeroOdio · 2025-03-03 23:31:35 UTC · score 1

Yes because the ATF totally cares about you being well intentioned and trying your best with some Velcro.

  • u/iguanaish · 2025-03-03 23:19:41 UTC · score 1

    Fr fuck the gaytf.

If a brace that works like a stock in a forest and no one sees it, does it really matter what the gaytf thinks? 😂

  • u/desEINer · 2025-03-04 00:47:49 UTC · score 1

Unfortunately in that document the ATF goes out of their way to basically say if it's not the exact weapon exactly configured as one of the approved weapons, and there's any deviation it could end up being disapproved. Basically they will never approve a brace at the accessory level. They will only approve whole pistols, and only on a case-by-case basis when assembled by a private person.

Clone of an sba brace? Sure. Clone of an mcx stock? Eh…

  • u/Cheeky_Quim · 2025-03-03 23:49:36 UTC · score 1

    I think length matters.

  • u/afcarbon15-diy · 2025-03-04 00:14:56 UTC · score 1

It's called a brace. It must be a brace.

  • u/Fizzy-Odd-Cod · 2025-03-03 23:48:20 UTC · score 1

This is a stock not a brace. The key thing about braces is that they have blades not a flat face. This appears to be a near perfect replica of an mcx stock and would be ruled as such if you got a knock on your door from the ATF.

It may sound stupid that having the large flat piece on the back makes it a stock, that’s just how it is.

  • u/curious_george710 · 2025-03-03 23:54:47 UTC · score 1

I use this one on my alloy and no one ever says anything at the range

  • u/solventlessherbalist · 2025-03-03 23:35:24 UTC · score 1

Stock dude, if it has a butt pad it’s inherently meant to be shouldered

  • u/PutridNest · 2025-03-03 23:01:05 UTC · score 2

The flat back is key to the argument. When this went to litigation, they made a scoring system, the surface area of the rear was heavily weighted.

That’s why every brace is either blade, a tailhook, or splits open to minimize the surface area that can rest against the shoulder. It’s all about intended use - you’re fine shouldering an actual brace because that wasn’t its intended use.

    Binary trigger Idea???

I have a Question and dont know if it would work but sounds like it could hypothetically work. Would a m16 burst trigger with the wider channel and spots for springs work for a poor man's binary trigger? Basically 2 disconnectors ( 1 FA and one Standard Ar15) and a m16 burst trigger and a FA selector switch . With the nub ground down a tad . The parts I wondered about are down below

Finished my DB alloy whiteout build. Pretty standard db alloy with a Mac 11/9 upper from Ave. Accessories are a fixed pic mounted stock and a mod3 VFG. Red/green dot sight is a cheap one I found on Amazon that appears to be cerakoted white and the can I cerakoted myself with C series. Did some light paintfil with acrylic paint for the db logos and the safety position indicators

These are just test runs PLA test models so I can get an idea on what I need to change/fix before I print mine with polycarbonate. I’m running a Bambu P1S in Bambu studio. Would adjusting top Z distance, top interface layers, interface pattern, and top interface pattern help solve my problem?

Thanks for the help, I’m very new to 3D printing, but I am having a great time.

Hoffman SL-15 V4.8A Grip texture pack (Remix)

Now sailing under "Hoffman SL-15 V4.8A Grip texture pack"It's been years since the 4.8a release, but I never found a remix of the grip texture of this so I did mine.

The developer files Hoffman provided are quite complicated. His surface modeling work in SolidWorks is insane. I'm actually stunned by his skills.

And apologies to the STL orientation, I haven't figured out how to do the exact orientation in Hoffman's STL. But you can always do it in your slicer, maybe the original infill modifier would work as well.

I'm also working on a pistol grip version of v4.8A. The grip on those will be more vertical than the original.
